Home

Where is home? After 1, 5 years on tour we have a cozy apartment in Munich Schwabing (btw. The name Schwabing comes from ´Schlawiner´). However, does that feel like home? The answer is simple: Yes! Can you imagine what a feeling this is? You put all your things nicely next to each other, you make neat piles and you have a wonderful overview what clothes you could wear.

Well, for most of you that is normal. For us is heaven!

For months we had all our things in a suitcase and of course always when you were looking for something special it was at the ground of the suitcase. And the tough order you had managed to keep in your suitcase was ruined. .. That is over for now – and we enjoy having a cupboard.

However, there are more things we love: a washing machine in the bathroom – not in the cellar, not in the next building, where you have to share it with many others – no this washing machine is there day and night and we love to wash. After sports the stuff goes directly into the washing machine, so the next day you can wear them again…

And of course – we missed him! Good old Jack Bauer! This is the man who gave our vehicle in the USA its name last year. Because of our year off we are far back with the ´24´ and are watching season 6 right now. Almost every day one episode – almost every day a series even on World Cup match days….

River Surfing on the Eisbach

In order to surf you have to go to the sea, don´t you? Nope, when you live in Munich you can surf on the Eisbach at the south end of the English Garden – this is an anabranch of the river Isar.It is not really officially permitted, however it is tolerated. Since the 70th
there were Eisbach –Surfer. Some dudes even came to live in Munich in order to surf on the Eisbach. So there is by now a real subculture which has generated real professionals.

There is even a documentary about the surfer girls and beach boys `Keep Surfing` by Björn Richie who is part of this subculture. It was published last year after 10 years of making this documentary.

Thus the Eisbach Surfer is a tourist attraction in Munich. So the surfer is happy – he/ she have audience and the tourist! So if you stop by in Munich make sure you go to see them!

Find the difference

In this blog I ask you to activate your brain. Look at the pictures which are almost identically and find the difference!

Well? Not that easy, isn´t it? I have to confess on both pictures I had the same destiny which was a fitness club in the Einstein street in Munich –my first drive there with my bike you can see on picture one- second try, second picture was the next day.
At my first attempt it took me 1.5 hours and 22 km until I decided I had enough fitness only by biking there. When I arrived back in the apartment in Schwabing I had driven 30 km. The second day, I took a second glance at Google map before starting my second attempt and after 21 minutes and 7 km I found it immediately.

It would have helped if I were not only focused on the main street on my first attempt... However, after 1 year desert & mountains it is tough to live in a major city.

Btw: By now I find my way without any problems – and no map needed…

New Home

Well, it feels strange after 16 months on tour and without a home, since 1. June we have an apartment in Munich.

The jewel is in center of Munich – in Schwabing directly at the Luitpoldpark and between Olympic Park and English Garden.

Michaela drives to the office 5 km by bicycle – so no worries at all. And the next underground station is 400 m from our apartment.

Within the reach of 500m there is a bakery, a butcher, a supermarket and a coffeebar, an Asian supermarket, a repair center for bikes, copy shop, fruit stands, big organic supermarket and an Adidas Original store – and so much more. Starbucks is 1 km away and a Black Beans 1,5 km – fantastic!

From here we will continue to explore our new home Munich. By bike we are in the city center within 10 minutes. And as we are still brand new in Munich we are happy for any tips – so let us know if you have any!
