Vegas - a bit different this time

Our second trip to Las Vegas turned out to be completely different to what we had experienced before….

It started with visiting Lisa and Kevin who are working in Las Vegas for Amazon. When we arrived they served fantastic cocktails and then we went to a very delicious Italian restaurant. This one was of course in a casino. In Vegas everything happens in casinos even in the suburbs (the casinos are called neighborhood casinos).

After the meal I stepped outside the restaurant for a cigarette. So I was still inside the casino as you are allowed to smoke in casinos. While smoking, I put one dollar in one of the slot machines and won 70 cents. So I walked euphorically back to the restaurant, which was just some meters away. I wanted to share my luck with Lisa, Kevin and Michaela. However an invisible obstacle stopped me. I bumped into something while walking into the restaurant. When I saw the waiter and waitresses coming to the door and sliding it open, I realized that they had closed the door while I was outside (btw: the door was really clean) and I had walked into the glass door.

Nevertheless it was not till later I understood everything. The complete story was the following: I left the restaurant some minutes before 9.30 pm and came back some minutes after 9.30 pm. In the meanwhile the waiters had closed the restaurant although there were still some guests inside. After they unlocked the door again, one of the waiters made me aware that I was bleeding (I had not realized that). So I went back to the restroom in order to clean the wound, which was surprisingly large, and to stop the bleeding.

Coming back to the table I told the others that I need to see the next hospital and told them what happened. While Kevin paid the bill, the waiters asked several times if I were okay. They did not call a cab or offered ice for the wound. However they offered complimentary cocktails, which we rejected. Then we went on a walk home to Lisa and Kevin (approximately 15 minutes) and they drove me to the next emergency room. It took 3 hours to get 6 stitches and 3 nurses and 1 doctor were seeing me. The costs were accordingly.

After 5 days the threads had to be removed. Instead of going again to the hospital, which would have been pretty time consuming again as we had left Vegas; this was done on the campground. The assistant doctor Maximilan did the first check (blood pressure and heart beat), nurses Nicole and Michaela did the rest under the supervision of Dr. Markus. I owe them my respect especially Nicole and Michaela. The operation ‘6 stitches’ was successful and painless. Seems both have a potential additional career path.
