Safari in Australia

How many of the 10 most poisonous snakes of the world come from Australia? Right, all 10. However, that is not all. The most poisonous spiders come from Australia, too (e.g. the Funnel-Web spider). The most poisonous squid (Bule-ringed octopus), the most poisonous tick (Paralysis Tick) and the most poisonous fish (stonefish). Sounds dangerous, doesn’t it? That is not all as there are sharks and crocodiles in Australia as well. Australia is a paradise for us as we are safari lovers. With open eyes we gaze at the fascinating wild life. Thus we have seen some interesting animals. For example the ‘German Chickens’ which are everywhere (actually they are Australians turkeys, however German backpackers called them German chickens due to their colors).

Then there were koalas, rainbow parrots, sulphur-crested cockatoos, a dingo (unfortunately no picture as he escaped quickly), dragon, dolphins, sea turtles, frogs, opossums, pelicans, echidna, geckos, bats, butterflies, praying mantis, fish eagle, jellyfish, snakes (carpet snake and broad-headed snake)

...and the loud laughing kingfisher (kookabera) – btw. the biggest kingfisher of the world.

And many fish (have a look at the blog about the Great Barrier Reef), and many other things

....and many kangaroos.

Kangaroos and Emus are the heraldic animals. A strange couple you might think… However, they have one thing in common both cannot walk backwards. That is a nice metaphor for a young and manifold nation!
